From 1997 seven “Down symposiums” have been organized in Szeged by the Department of Medical Genetics of the Faculty of General Medicine of the University of Szeged acting together with the Szeged Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Fetal Genetic Disorders. From this year on the Foundation will be the main acting organizer, supported by the Department of Medical Genetics of the Faculty of General Medicine of the University of Szeged. The official language will be English and Hungarian. The 8th Down Syndrome Symposium will be organized in 23–24 April, 2010. Purpose of the symposium and training is to widen the social and medical attention to the people living with Down syndrome and other handicaps.
In the second day of the Symposium a Training Course in Fetal Medicine will be organized. The scientific programme involves different approaches to prenatal screening and diagnosis with discussions about the right of the fetus and of the fetal interest in the screening process hopefully gives new drive to the “Down syndrome’s issue”. In addition a training course in Fetal Medicine, the twelve week’s (holistic) sonography and the fetal echocardiography also provides useful experience for the participants.
